The County Sheriff's Office
The Office of County Sheriff was created by Article XVII, Section 2 of the Oklahoma Constitution,
and that Office is vested with the authority to uphold the laws of the state:
“As a law enforcement officer, my fundamental duty is to serve mankind; to
safeguard lives and property; to protect the innocent against deception, the weak
against oppression or intimidation, and the peaceful against violence or disorder;
and to respect the Constitutional Rights of all to liberty, equality, and justice.”
According to Oklahoma State Statutes, peace officers in the state of Oklahoma:
“. . . shall have the power to arrest all offenders against the laws of the State by day
or by night, and keep them in prison or other place to prevent their escape until a
trial can be held before the proper office”.
As the Johnston County Sheriff, I am committed to enhance the quality of life and lessen the
criminal fears of all citizens. General duties of this Office include preventing and detecting
crime, preserving the peace, protecting the citizens and others as well as their personal
property and maintaining order.
Utilizing the authority and safeguards of the Constitution of the United States and the freedoms
cited in the Bill of Rights, the laws and statutes of the State of Oklahoma, I will work
cooperatively with all segments of the general public and government to provide a safe
environment and preserve the peace.
